i know 250r's are the best quads ever produced but LT's have 2 stroke motors too:)
here is one of my projects, 1987 LT500R aka Quadzilla
this is when i 1st got it. $1200 and not running. what you see is what i got. slim pickin's in hawaii you know. kinda hard to find the good old 2 strokes over here on this rock. people don't even know what kind of quad my TRX250R is. WHAT! it's the OG quad FOOL!
i'm the only guy at home so my daughters know the drill. even my dog is a girl. see the RC's in the back ground? all 2 stoke!:)

Those Quadzillas are beasts. They have simply amazing power, much different than a Banshee. Let us know how the build comes along.

Out here there are a few zillas running around. One of my friends is rebuilding one. He's going to be putting a DrQ pipe on it. Jerry Hall out in Glendale Az has built some custom pipes for the QZ that he showed me some dyno charts at I think around 90hp. Brutal. Either way, there is support out there and guys still in business who know those things inside and out. Let me know if you need any connections and I'll see what I can come up with.

right now i'm just hunting for parts that i don't have at all or parts that need replaceing. now it actually looks like a quad. i would love to have a Q pipe but at $600 i can spend that dough on parts i really need. like bearings and ball joints. i scored a FMF pipe for cheap and i cleaned it up. looks pretty good. so many things need attention. the wireing was all screwed so i had to deal with that. the brakes were all frozen and needed a total rebuild. someone on the Q forums hooked me up with plastics and now she looks like a runner. next big thing to deal with are the shocks. i got some Ohlins up front and a stock in the rear. all of which need to be rebuilt. after the shocks i think i'm good to go for a test ride. she does fire. i got a bit to eager one nite around 9pm. she fired on the 2nd kick:)

Slick. Post some pics. Dr Q a long time ago I think said the Paul Turner worked well on Zilla's. From looking at the Q pipe, my guess is he likes high rpm power.

next to the Q pipe the PT pipe is said to be the next best in line. per Dr. Q. his site is packed with info but lately its been kind of slow Q is away. with Q not around its getting kind of boring. it just seams like all the members are looking 4 parts. the search button in my best friend.

I logged in there a few times trying to get some info on the zilla motor, but never got connected to it really I think - probably because I'm into the R. Q's got a ton of knowledge, but he seems like kind of a nut on his own site. lol. I bet he's a softie in person. ha

i don't have any full shot of her when i 1st brought her home. the above pictures are all i have. here she is now.
i still have alot to do. all ball joints need replaceing, all shocks need to be rebuilt, chain, clutch lever, front bumper (have my heart set on a AC), rear fender supports. i got to get to the shocks. that is going to be my next biggest bill.

Suspension upgrades suck to pay for. They cost half the cost of the bike. When I went 0preload it took me a while to like it, but I think I'm a lot faster now on that setup. On the side I've been trying to figure out if "long travel" does anything worth upgrading for. A longer shock doesn't make the travel longer... I'll figure it out at some point.

The high price is what has kept me from upgrading my suspension for all these years. I think people like to spend money on motor upgrades because most regular weekend warriors drag race their machines as opposed to racing some kind of course, where suspension would have an impact. I usually will try to lure a Banshee to race me on a curved road though, and use the major advantage the 250R has on a Banshee :)

i found a guy locally that can rebuild my front Ohlins. He use to work for Ohlins then for Race Tech. i took my shocks to him and he tells me the shocks are not even for my quad. according to the stamped serial number i have shocks for a BMW. WTF? serious downer. he said he could make it work but i whould have to change the the rod so it is longer, along with the body. for the cost of parts he said i might as well start fresh with new shocks. on a good note my rear shock is totally rebuildable with Race Tech parts. Gold Valve:)
so i went to my favorite store. Ebay. and i find that Works has a OutLet store. MAJOR SCORE! I picked up some dual rates with resis for hella cheap. Orginal price was over $600. They were built to order and the customer never came threw. and the valveing for the shocks are spot on.

I discovered something that really surprised me last weekend regarding my TRX. I rode my low hours original 89 in Glamis last weekend and the shocks ran really well! They were smooth through the buggy tracks. I could get better starts on the whooped section of Olds hill than my friend's old 88 because I could shift easier because the suspension was soaking things up pretty well! I dare say it's less tiring to ride than my 0preload Elka's on my regular R.
It was an odd experience because everyone says they hate the original suspension. I'm in a rare position to ride a really low hours R though, and I have to say if they're fresh, they're actually pretty good.
