In the production works is a slightly new designed TRX inlet boot. The OEM one was discontinued earlier this year, so I'm taking on the project of getting a new one made. I shipped off a sample and the manufacturer is working to get the new one created.

New design:
I provided him with custom dimensions to straighten the tube a little around the bend for the frame and shock since there is plenty of room to do so. This should yield slightly less turbulence in the tract. The rubber is supposed to be the "best" out there and is not susceptible to gasoline, u.v. damage. All in all, it should be a better part than the original.

Check back for status on this new part. Here is the forum thread with some of your thoughts, status, etc:

My manufacturer has had some personal problems and hasn't been doing much work on the project. I'm guessing the project will be delayed some, but I'm not sure on a release date yet for the new boot. Will keep updates going though.

The only news is the guy hasn't returned my emails. I need to call him and ask him what his plans are. I'll call him soon and give an update. We'll see.

Ok finally some sort of an update. The guy has verbally committed to giving me a formal update on Monday. That's not much news, but it's means real news on a new intake boot should be soon.

Yes, he says he's half way finished with the mold. Now, to be honest I don't know what that means in terms of time to delivery, but it sounds like he's at least working on it finally, so that's progress! I'll update the thread once I learn more too.

I have no idea what the OEM ones are worth exactly. They're probably going to be worth more before an aftermarket solution is out there though - provided the new boots are good quality. The issue with the boots as a product is they're necessary, but not a high wear item... so they turn over pretty slowly, like when it's pretty old basically - you know. Then again, people like discontinued OEM stuff, so could be it gets more valuable over time! For sure the plastics have. man like $500 for a rear fender these days... insanity. lol

OK! Something more substantial. I am supposed to receive the first prototype on Monday to test for fitment. That will be a fun day! This first version is purely a replica of the original - dimension-wise. If there is a reason, we may make a version that's longer for the CR intake boot and I'd like to see one that's straighter around the frame rail area and test if it makes any performance difference.

So that's the news. When I get the boot I'll post an update.

I got the first boot. It looks identical but the material needs to be softer. He's in the process of making another one that will be more pliable and hopefully will be done soon. I'll let you know!

Ok, I am a little miffed at how this is developing so slowly. My excuse is it's basically out of my hands, but I wish it weren't.

Anyway, the first boot was produced and was harder than is acceptable, as noted above. He thought making a softer one would be a slam dunk, but apparently it adds a level of problem, that he was going to try one last try to see if he could get it poured with the right compound - basically, he needs to hear the compound to get it to pour into the cast...

He's supposed to let me know if this attempt works or not. He says this boot is the most complex casting he's done, but he seems enthusiastic about it at least. Hopefully he can get it figured out.

The last time I talked to him, he was supposed to try another technique to get a softer rubber into the mold. I'll have to call to see if he's made any progress. He was supposed to update me by now. I'll call him tomorrow and see if i can get an update. I'll post.

Good news and bad news. Good news is we'll have a definitive answer about the boot in less than 2 weeks. The bad news is they're having a real hard time getting the softer compound to mold correctly, so basically they're at the point where they're going to try one more time, and if they can't do it, they're giving up. They can make one with the harder compound, and I have a copy of that boot, but it's about as stiff as one of the OEM's that are old, and that defeats the purpose...

So that's what's news there. I'll post more when we know what the future holds from this manufacturer.

Ok! Gave him a little more time and it was worth it. He's saying manufacturing is a go. I'm getting another prototype in the mail probably Tue, after memorial day that should be close to the right hardness. I'm going to check it out and make sure it's a winning product and then should be able to get pricing done from there. Will probably be between 60-70.

Will post an update soon.

Yea I have some news... not great news though. The boot has some flaws. It's not stretching over a PWK size bellmouth though is the major problem to be specific. He's busy making other parts too, but he's going to work on the part as he has time. For sure the project is on my bench though and will keep updates going as they come.
